Let go after 28 years

Post by Beverly » Wed Mar 28, 2018 8:15 pm

I started working for my employer of 28 years at the lowest rung. I worked nights so we wouldn't have a day care bill. However, over time, I moved thru the ranks and learned valuable skills. However, I never earned a degree. On a conference call in January, a large group of about 70 people were told our jobs have been eliminated. 2 weeks after that, the company announced a sweet little early retirement package. BUT, I missed the retirement by 4 months. I wasn't old enough by 4 months.... So I find myself retired when I least expect it.

I have heard of this happening to others but I never thought it would happen to me. Has it happened to you? Can you retire or are you looking for something to tide you over until 65?
