Retirement Requires More Medical Help

Mayo Clinic

Retirement often brings a dark side of the human experience. Getting older and medical needs seem to go hand in hand as the years increase. Most of the time, thank God the problems are easily fixed. But like everything in life there are exceptions to every rule. I for one experienced a physical situation that couldn’t seem to be solved via my regular doctor and the specialists’ doctors she sent me to. Finally out of sheer desperation I decided to visit Mayo Clinic. And boy was that an eye opening experience.

Home Room Doctor

When I arrived I checked in at the admitting desk and was assigned a Doctor who would be my coordinator during my visit at the medical facility. He was the first doctor I talked to and the last one I saw just before I left to go home.

Speedy Results

The first thing they wanted to do was the bathroom thing with the paper trapping device. Then I was given my first appointment and had some blood removed from my veins. Before leaving this department I was given another doctor to see and so the journey went. I spent three days at the Mayo Clinic. During these three days I was frequently redirected back to my coordinating Doctor who explained results as they were completed. The speed at which they completed tests amazed me. Like most people in normal medical situations your lucky if you get your results in a week or so. Here they were accomplishing results in a matter of hours or less. Only one test I took required me to wait till I returned home and then it was only three days after I got home. That speed of getting things done spoiled me for the rest of my life.

Found Problem & Corrected

They discovered my problem and it was corrected. I cannot say enough good things about how that medical facility does it job and gets to the root of the problem. Maybe home doctors could create similar coordination so that patients can get results and solutions without waiting for months rather then days like I did.

Home Doctor gets A Plus

In all fairness to my current family doctor, I’m quite impressed with him and his staff. As home doctors go, he gets an A plus from me.

If you’re experiencing what I did try Mayo’s or some other full service medical facility. You may not like the results of your tests but you will like the speed by which they complete their evaluation. That’s how I feel and I’m sticking to it.
